Way Too Soon

Title: Way Too Soon
Inspiration: Life

Verse One:
It's getting warmer
And the winds are dying down
You're almost happy
You make a lot of new friends just to see them off
You face rejection
It doesn't get hot 'til July
August is scalding
And yet somehow you do not mind
It's getting colder
Suddenly for your skirts
You need tights or leggings
Underneath the thin material

Chorus:
Saying:
I was there when you cried over him
The clips in your hair
They're saying the were there
When you hugged her goodbye for the very last time
Snow is falling
Winter's coming
And it's all way too soon
Times are changing
Rearranging
And it's all way too soon
Time is passing
How's it possible?
It's all way too soon
Way too soon...

Verse Two:
You find a dollar
In your pocket
On a February night
March brings sunny afternoons
And plenty of surprises
April's coming
Easter's coming
Passover's coming, too
Graduation's getting nearer
Examinations
And yet somehow, things aren't getting any clearer...

Chorus:
And your skirt says:
I was there when you cried over him
The clips in your hair
They're saying they were there
When you got that diploma with the tears in your eyes
It's getting warmer
Summer's coming
And it's all way too soon
Times are changing
Rearranging
And it's all way too soon
Time is passing
How's it possible?
It's all way too soon
Way too soon...

Bridge:
This afternoon I found that old shirt in the hamper
We all signed July 2008 with washable marker
Yeah, it's true
I indulged my inner twelve-year-old naive self
Thanks for teaching me how to grow
Now somebody teach me how to let go...

Ending:
And your skirt says:
I was there when you cried over him
The clips in your hair
They're saying they'll be there
When you make it to your new high school
Don't cry
Summer's ending
Stop pretending
Oh my God, way too soon
Schoolwork's harder
Winter's colder
And it's all way too soon
Time is passing
How's it possible?
It's all way too soon
Way too soon...

Thanks for two Summers in a row teaching me how to grow
Now somebody teach me how to let go...
